Background

Utah State University’s Dee Glen Smith Spectrum is a multi-purpose arena on campus that was equipped with an outdated Bose audio system from the 1990s. Over time, the audio quality in the arena deteriorated to the point where it became unintelligible. Used for a variety of events, such as basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, concerts, and other occasions, the arena often opted not to use the main audio system. Instead, monitor speakers were used as a substitute.

The Solution(s)

KLA upgraded the arena’s audio system to include six (6) Fulcrum speaker clusters, Powersoft amplifiers, QSC Q-SYS DSP, a Shure wireless microphone system, and a Yamaha soundboard. The system features both digital and analog redundancy. It has a single mode fiber optic backbone, as well as a copper wire solutions for analog backup.
