Network Server Engineer


The Network Server Engineer assists with customer projects in achieving optimum use of their computer networks by performing needs analysis, procurement support, installation, training and problem resolution for the local and wide area networks. This position is responsible for analyzing, designing, configuring, maintaining and repairing network systems and application components, resolving network issues timely and accurately supporting internal and external user needs.


Essential Functions

  • Assists in the training of other information systems personnel to improve their technical skills

  • Responsible for configuration, operation, and administration of network server hardware, operating systems, and communications links

  • Defines and implements solutions to integrate desktop and shared devices into local and wide area networks and/or other host-based networks

  • Recommends appropriate computer tools to users including equipment software, documentation, and training

  • Responsible for coordination of all activities regarding the clients’ data networks

  • Designs, configures, maintains and manages network security features for local and wide area networks; anti-virus programs to ensure network and systems integrity

  • Works with telecommunications engineers to integrate voice, data and video applications on the local and wide area networks

  • Analyzes, recommends, and evaluates new hardware, software, and communications products for network compatibility and applicability.

  • Develops, maintains and updates a library of technical documentation

  • Performs advanced diagnostics and maintenance on desktop devices when additional expertise is required

  • Assumes contractual management responsibilities, assists in requests for proposals, vendor selection, and contract monitoring

  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites. This position can occasionally function in an outside environment and is subject to inclement weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and climbing distances up to a maximum of 40 feet. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 75 pounds.



Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Frequent evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.



Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. A minimum of 25% travel is expected. Passport required.


Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience, with Industry standard certifications preferred such as MCSA. Five years of related work experience, with three years’ experience installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing Network systems and services. Experience with PC’s, servers (Physical and Virtual), Storage (SAN), Microsoft software and back-up systems required.
